BC's Hands-free Regulation is in effect as of January 1st, 2010.
Under this regulation cell phones, personal electronics cannot be used while behind the wheel of a car – unless making or receiving a phone call can be done
hands-free, by voice activation or by one touch.
The new rules apply to cellphones, music players, gaming devices and GPS units.
As of Feb. 1st individuals caught talking on an electronic device behind the wheel will be issued a $167 ticket.
Anyone caught e-mailing or text messaging will be similarly fined and be subject to three penalty points on their driver's licence.
